Danmission – Promoting Peace, Justice, and Sustainable Stewardship

Who We Are

Danmission is an international faith-based organisation with over 200 years of experience. We work to foster peace, promote justice, and support sustainable development in Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. We link local, faith-based voices with regional and global actors, ensuring that grassroots perspectives contribute to broader dialogues and solutions.

Danmission’s unique positioning within global faith-based networks enables us to foster deep-rooted trust and access in challenging environments where secular organisations may struggle. Through long-term, scalable partnerships and innovative problem-solving approaches, we create sustainable solutions that support local communities’ endeavours to drive development, peacebuilding, and environmental stewardship. With proven success in fostering social cohesion and preserving critical ecosystems, Danmission is a trusted partner for institutional donors seeking impactful, scalable, and lasting change.

Our adaptive and holistic programming is focused on three core areas:

  1. Sustainable Stewardship of Natural Resources – Supporting communities to sustainably manage and protect their natural resources while addressing climate change and environmental degradation.
  2. Dialogue and Peacebuilding – Promoting social cohesion through dialogue, conflict resolution, and data-driven efforts to combat extremism.
  3. Contextual Theology for Faith and Social Action – Engaging faith communities in locally-driven initiatives that foster democracy, inclusion, and resilience.

Our Value Through Partnerships

Partnership is central to Danmission’s mission. We collaborate closely with local, faith-based, and civil society organisations to ensure sustainable, long-term solutions. These partnerships allow us to amplify local voices and strengthen communities while ensuring that our efforts are grounded in the realities of those we serve. By working through partners, we achieve greater reach and impact in regions facing environmental and social challenges.

Problem-Solving Solutions for Sustainable Change

At Danmission, we approach global challenges with innovative, problem-solving solutions. By combining modern technology with community-driven initiatives, we support peacebuilding and environmental sustainability.

We use data analytics and digital platforms to reach diverse communities, creating effective strategies for conflict prevention and resource management. Our projects adapt to local contexts, ensuring they remain responsive to evolving challenges.

Our Impact

Danmission’s global reach and local engagement across Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, supported by its strong network of volunteers and community partners, allows us to deliver meaningful, long-term change in various contexts and deliver measurable outcomes that empower communities, foster peace, and promote sustainability, and thus create long-lasting, systemic change. Through our partnerships and innovative approaches, examples include:

  • Influenced National Legislation in Egypt: Danmission has played a crucial role in advancing a draft law to criminalise hate speech, marking a significant legislative milestone. This achievement is the result of four years of advocacy and dialogue with key stakeholders, including lawmakers, religious leaders, and civil society. This initiative addresses escalating sectarian hate speech, promoting peaceful coexistence and reducing extremism in the region.
  • Promoting Peace and Interfaith Dialogue in the Middle East: In Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq, Danmission is fostering dialogue between religious and community leaders to counter extremism and hate speech. Through peacebuilding initiatives, we work with local actors to reduce social tensions and promote coexistence in conflict-affected areas, among others, by using dialogue platforms and tracking social tensions through real-time data analysis, allowing for targeted peacebuilding interventions.
  • Protected Forests in Cambodia: Danmission’s work in restoring degraded forests has engaged over 1,500 participants in tree-planting ceremonies. Our support for community-based forest monitoring through the development of technical tools, such as data collection apps, has empowered local actors to track and reduce illegal logging. By combining technology with local traditions, Danmission protects critical ecosystems and promotes sustainable resource management.
  • Supporting Grassroots Networks in Myanmar: Danmission has been active in strengthening grassroots organisations to advocate for their rights and protect their natural resources. By building the capacity of local actors, we ensure that communities have the tools and knowledge they need to sustainably manage their land and resources.
  • Challenged Misleading Theologies in Tanzania: In Tanzania, advocacy committees are established to address local conflicts and human rights violations, including gender-based violence, and promote access to justice and accountability. Danmission has also led efforts to confront misleading theological practices that exploit vulnerable communities. Through theological forums, religious leaders are addressing misconceptions, restoring hope, and reconnecting those affected by fraudulent practices with their families and communities. This intervention underscores our ability to confront sensitive issues through faith-based leadership.
  • Volunteer Engagement in Denmark: Danmission’s network of over 8,000 supporters and volunteers plays a vital role in advancing our mission. In Denmark alone, 2,800 volunteers support our cause through Danmission’s charity shops, raising funds that are critical for our global initiatives.
